  • ESPN ombudsman weighs in on Ben Roethlisberger matter

I assume most normal people couldn't care less, but this is the  big event we in the insular world of sports media wonks have been waiting for:

Don Ohlmeyer's first column as ESPN's third ombudsman and first without a newspaper background.

Observations: It's really, really long and includes a quote from . . . me!

But he does (eventually) do an effective job taking ESPN to task for its recent non-reporting of a troubling charge aimed at Ben Roethlisberger. Not that he was going out on a limb there.

Speaking of Big Ben, he starred in the premiere episode of the new reality show "Shaq Vs." Tuesday night. I did not watch it. Sorry.

Watched my recording of season premiere of "Mad Men" instead. Really weird episode.
