Fox expands MLB prime time coverage

JULY 1: YANKEES 5, METS 1 Game story

Game story - Box Score - Photos
Recap: Before Yankees' starter Ivan Nova even threw a pitch the Yankees scored three runs in the first inning off Jonathan Niese. Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano each had RBI doubles and that's all Nova would need. Nova had to work out of many jams as the Mets couldn't get the big hit off of him in the first five innings. The Yankee bullpen would pitch the next four innings allowing three hits and no runs.
Key stat: The Mets were 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position against Nova.
2011 record: 41-41
2010 record: 46-36

The broadcast networks’ entertainment divisions long ago abandoned Saturday nights, which left an opening for sports divisions to offer live events.

ABC has had success with college football in the autumn, and now Fox is further expanding its prime time baseball presence this spring and summer.

The network will have regionalized coverage on eight consecutive Saturdays beginning May 19, including Mets-Yankees games June 9 and 23 and concluding with a July 7 slate that includes the Yankees at the Red Sox.

Another new wrinkle in Fox’s MLB coverage: Its Saturday pregame show will be produced by MLB Network and hosted by Matt Vasgersian. It will originate from the network’s studio in Secaucus.
