Fox ready for prime time
Fox experimented with prime time baseball on two Saturdays last season, and saw ratings soar. So this year it will expand the slate to three weekends in a row – May 14, 21 and 28.
(Naturally, the Yankees and Mets will be featured prominently.)
Might this be another step toward even more nationally televised night games on Saturdays?
“Prime time baseball has performed pretty well,’’ Fox Sports president Eric Shanks said. “As we look at how these three dates perform internally and with baseball and the clubs, we will take a look at if there is a possiblity of doing even more in the coming seasons.’’
It all makes sense in TV terms, but the downside is fewer family-friendly day games, especially in big, TV-friendly markets such as New York.
