Giants loss was epic
Here is the column I wrote for the Monday paper about the Giants' debacle against the Panthers in their final game at Giants Stadium.
Among other things it says the loss was the most embarrassing in their 283 games there.
Yes, I am aware of The Fumble in 1978. But that was one boneheaded play from a team that otherwise would have won the game.
Sunday's loss was a start-to-finish mess by a four-time defending playoff participant in a game with a playoff berth potentially on the line and one the players knew had special meaning to the Giants' ownership and fans.
So, yes, I'm comfortable proclaiming this the all-time worst in the building, given all of the circumstances.
To rub it in, the Cowboys eliminated the Giants by beating the Redskins, 17-0, the same score by which the Giants beat the Redskins early in 1987 in the game identified at halftime as the team's greatest moment in the Meadowlands.
