Howard Cosell ranks No. 1 on this list of sports voices

My strategy of keeping readers busy with a list worked wonders Wednesday, so let's do it again as I de-blog to write a Friday column.

(I thought about writing a piece about fan fatigue over coverage of the A-Rod saga, until I read this column by Jeansonne that shamed me into shutting up about that. In fact, this should run on my Friday newspaper page, as it is better than anything media-related I will write today.)

Anyway, this is a few weeks old, but it's an interesting list of the best announcers ever compiled by David Halberstam, a media historian I used to know in his days calling St. John's games in the early 1990s.

This list is much different from the one that I posted a while back from the American Sportscasters Association. There is much to debate here. Discuss among yourselves.

Enjoy Game 5 of the 2000 World Series at 7 p.m. on YES. I was there! So was Shea Stadium, RIP.
