J.R. Smith near top of retweet list

A laurel and hearty handshake to the Knicks’ own J.R. Smith, who finished fifth on Twitter’s list of most-retweeted sports-related posts of 2013, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, Andy Murray, the U.S. soccer team and LeBron James.

After the Nets defeated the Knicks in January, Kris Humphries, ex-husband of Kim Kardashian, posted, “Big game tonight! The Garden got really quiet on the way out.’’

To which Smith responded, “Wasnt [cq] quiet when Kanye tore it down last month!’’

Kanye West, now Kardashian’s fiancé, had performed at the Garden as part of the 12-12-12 fundraising concert for superstorm Sandy victims. Smith’s diss was good for 62,877 retweets.

My favorite was No. 2 on the list. “#YoureWelcomeMexico,” came courtesy of U.S. Soccer after the Americans’ late rally beat Panama, 3-2, in October and kept Mexico alive for the 2014 World Cup. That was worth 83,128 retweets.
