Jets celebrated Super Bowl III without confetti cannons

A friend who is an AFL fan from way, way back watched Super Bowl III on NFL Network Saturday and observed some of the same things that stood out to me when I saw it a couple of years ago.

The football action itself doesn't look dramatically different from today, other than the fact the players are smaller and slower.

The biggest difference is how the announcers and even more so the players react to what is going on on the field.

Today, players celebrate first downs in preseason with more melodramatic flair than they did touchdowns in Super Bowls four decades ago.

Not sure whether to blame SportsCenter or video games or sugary cereals or a decline in Western Civilization, but it is what it is.

Have some non-blog stuff to do today. Enjoy Mets mini-camp.
