Jets land ratings mark
I led my Tuesday newspaper column with information about the boffo NFL ratings from Week 1 - led by Giants-Redskins and Cowboys-Jets.
Then, sure enough, NBC sent a bunch more data Tuesday. I decided not to bore print readers with more of this stuff, but you blog readers love it. And even if you don't, so what? There are no space restrictions here.
So . . .
Sunday night's Cowboys-Jets game averaged 25.8 million viewers, the most for a Sunday or Monday primetime game in 14 years and the most ever for "Sunday Night Football."
The 25.8 million figure was the most since the 27.0 million who watched a Monday night game between the Broncos and 49ers on ABC in 1997.
The only prime time, regular-season NFL games with more viewers since 1997 were the past two Thursday night openers on NBC - 27.5 million last year and 27.2 million last week.
Meanwhile, on ESPN Monday night, the Patriots and Dolphins averaged 14.6 million viewers, second best for an ESPN Monday night opener behind only last year's Ravens-Jets game (15.0 million.)
