Joe Girardi makes Yankees players 'feel like wimps'
Joba Chamberlain was interviewed on the MLB Network Tuesday night. Nuthin' about Joe Torre's book or midges, as far as I know.
MLB Net sent these quotes:
ON BEING IN THE STARTING ROTATION THIS YEAR:
Its just nice to know what Im going to do the entire year. For me, mentally its calming. You know, every fifth day I know what Im going to do.
ON ANDY PETTITTE RETURNING TO THE YANKEES:
I think it brings a staple back to this uniform. I think hes going to help the younger guys out a lot and hes going to win you games.
ON NEW TEAMMATE CC SABATHIA:
I got the opportunity to meet CC right after he signed. It was great, just to be there, just to socialize with him. Hes more than the uniform. Hes a fun guy to talk with; I think hes going to fit in great. You know, playing against us, I think his ERA was like negative 2, its nice to have him on our side.
ON COMPARING JOE GIRARDI AND JOE TORRE AS MANAGERS:
Joe Girardi is a younger guy, he likes to lift weights. He makes us feel like wimps lifting dumbbells, but hes fun. Torre was a little more relaxed, more laid back. Its just different.ON WHAT HES LEARNED FROM MARIANO RIVERA:
I think, just to pay attention. When youre out in the bullpen for most of the game, you do kind of weird things like how many pieces of gum you can fit in your mouth and stuff, but theres a time you got to lock down and focus. I have ADD so its important to keep that focus for when its time to get out there.
ON THE FINAL GAME AT YANKEE STADIUM:
The tradition and the legacy that everybodys left in the stadium, not only baseball but football and boxing, a lots happened there. Knowing the guys who put the uniform on before, you get chills. Its nice to put the uniform on and know that 50-60 years people know that you did it well and you did it right. I cleaned out my locker and I took my cleats; I know that sounds kind of weird, but I thought about framing them, actually I was looking at them the other day. I also took my uniform, but nothing else, really.
