Joe Torre talks to Larry King, downplays book barbs
Many thanks to Katie Strang for watching "Larry King Live" live so I didn't have to. Here is her story on Joe Torre's first big book chat.
What did I think of it after watching it on the DVR? I thought it started out strongly, then tumbled down a cliff off the Pacific Coast Highway as fans asked inane, off-point questions in sports bars and Larry's great-grandson, er, sorry, I mean Larry's son and his friends showed up in Dodgers shirts to kibitz with Joe. Oy.
The funniest part was CNN flashing overwrought, tabloid-style headlines at the bottom of the screen as Torre calmly tried to soft-pedal some of the book's contents.
Torre said he didn't reveal any real clubhouse secrets. Apparently the one about Kevin Brown being balled up in a corner of the visiting locker room in St. Pete didn't count.
Whatever. Much, much more to come Tuesday and Wednesday!
