Kevin Brown said he was good to go for Game 7 in '04

Like several of the Yankees' pitching flops of the 21st century, Kevin Brown does not come off well in Mr. Joe Torre's new book about his years with the Bronx Bombers.
Brown assures Torre he is physically capable of performing well in Game 7 against the Bosox in 2004 ALCS. He isn't.
"It's the old thing about pitching hurt or pitching stupid,'' Torre says. "Pitching hurt, or playing hurt, is when you can go out there and still get the job done. Playing stupid is when you can't get the job done. Now you're letting everybody down."
Later, Torre tells of a 2005 game against the Devil Rays in which Brown stormed off the field down 6-0 after one inning, and later was found by the manager, shirtless and "curled up on the floor in a tiny crevice in the corner of a storage area in the back of the clubhouse."
"What are you doing?" Torre said.
"I'm not going to go out there and pitch anymore," Brown said.
"What are you going to do?"
"I'm going to go home."
"You might as well go home," Torre told him, but warned him that if he quit at that point he was through with the team.
Brown put his jersey back on, returned to the mound and threw four more innings.
