Film on ex-Islanders owner John Spano to premiere at Tribeca
The Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival announced its slate Tuesday, beginning with a world premiere that figures to attract a lot of attention in these parts.
“Big Shot,’’ actor Kevin Connolly’s film about former Islanders owner/fraud John Spano, will debut April 19.
“I’ve always thought the expression ‘passion project’ was kind of a cliché until I started working on ‘Big Shot’ for ESPN,’’ said Connolly, a Patchogue native who famously wore Islanders shirts and hats while appearing on “Entourage.’’
“Working side by side and spending time with guys that I literally grew up idolizing has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.’’
This should be interesting. After Newsday first wrote about the film last month, several more well-placed sources stepped forward, eager to talk about the Spano spectacle, so I put them in touch with producer Ted Schillinger.
“Big Shot’’ will be shown on ESPN in October.
