Knicks dancers bounce, Sugar waves, Mad Dog hugs

Went to the Knicks game Wednesday to see how the Knicks City Dancers were holding up after their narrow first-round loss to Toronto in NBA.com's annual dancer bracket.

They still seemed, um, bouncy and upbeat.

Nothing to do now but get behind the Nets Dancers - featuring Dix Hills' own Taylor Walker (left) and Laura Torres - in their second-round matchup against the Pacemates this afternoon.

I found the Knicks' loss to the Clippers quite entertaining, actually, in a twisted, semi-comical way. Most impressive was the fans' willingness to get wildly enthusiastic over a late-March game involving two out-of-contention squads.

Brush with greatness: I sat across from SNL's Will Forte and Jason Sudeikis.

Larry Johnson got a huge ovation when he was introduced to the crowd at his courtside seat. Also courtside was Micheal Ray Richardson, subject of still my all-time favorite Newsday backpage headline, written by Eric Compton on one of the rare occasions Richardson actually avoided trouble over a drug test:

Coke Free Sugar

Photo: SIBefore heading down to the Garden, at around 7:10 p.m., I ran into Chris Russo on the sidewalk near Rockefeller Center as he made his way to the train for the ride home to Connecticut. He hugged me.
