'Lombardi' moves chains
When I spoke to actor Dan Lauria (Lindenhurst’s own!) last spring about the upcoming Broadway show “Lombardi,’’ I was skeptical about its prospects.
When I saw the play last fall, I was even more skeptical.
(I liked the performances but was lukewarm about the show itself.)
It appears I was wrong, and I’m glad. Tuesday producers extended sales through June 19, a promising development for future attempts to marry the usually parallel universes of theater and sports fans.
The production has heavily marketed to football fans who might not be Broadway regulars, aided by promotional assistance from the NFL itself.
Latest example: Lauria will open the NFL Network’s wild-card weekend coverage Saturday with a 1½-minute inspirational monologue. In character as Lombardi, naturally.
