Merrick's own Joelle Forte, profiled here, came to the U.S. Figure Skating Championships this week with an interesting story.

For one thing, she's 22, which in women's figure skating years makes her around, oh, 66.

And the Fordham student last appeared in the nationals the last time they were in Cleveland . . . in 2000!

Forte was in eighth place after Thursday's short program. Saturday night's free skate is being televised by NBC from 9 to 11 p.m.

NBC has pairs skating Saturday afternoon, including Wantagh's own Joseph Lynch and his partner, Chloe Katz; both are sports management majors at NYU. They were in seventh place after the short program.
