MetLife globe is 'flaky' idea

Dressing up notoriously drab MetLife Stadium will be among the challenges Super Bowl XLVIII organizers face, but they are off to a good start with an early gimmick that actually looks pretty cool – literally and figuratively.

MetLife this week installed a 25-foot high “snow globe’’ outside the stadium, complete with real snow, as the Jets’ Joe McKnight and Giants’ David Wilson demonstrated by making snowballs during a promotional photo shoot.

“We just put it up because now it’s our countdown to Super Bowl XLVIII, so we’re going to find ways for fans to enjoy it,’’ said Beth Hirschhorn, MetLife’s chief marketing officer.

While plans for the globe are not fully set, the goal is to have it travel the nation. Its primary home will be at MetLife, where the public is expected to have access to it on game days for the 2013 season.
