LIVE WITH KELLY AND MICHAEL - 9/25/12 -

When Michael Strahan was in the mood, there was no better quote in the Giants locker room during my time covering the team in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

When he was not in the mood, there was no bigger pain in the neck.

Strahan told me the other day that the byplay with journalists in those days was one of the things that prepared him for his current role as co-host of "Live! with Kelly and Michael."

"I like people, man," he said. "I know you didn’t think that when I was in the locker room. I actually enjoyed it.

"I mixed it up. I made it interesting for me, because you do the same thing and answer the same questions every day, it gets boring. I didn’t want you guys to ever come in and say, 'Oh, Strahan, same old interview he gave last week. He’s a boring interview.' I wanted every time you came over to me you didn’t know what you were going to get and if I gave you something you were going to use it, because you didn’t know if you were going to get it again.

"I was a pain in the --- in purpose."
