  • NBA Finals out-rate NHL Finals, but both are up over last year

To the surprise of no one, the NBA easily out-rated the NHL head-to-head in overnight ratings from Sunday, averaging 10.9 percent of homes in major markets to 4.0 for hockey.

But both of those numbers were good for their respective sports, especially in light of the fact the two games no doubt hurt one another.

The NBA figure was up 10 percent over last year and the best for a Game 2 of the Finals since 2004.

The NHL figure was up 54 percent over last year's Game 5 of the Cup Finals.

Speaking of positive NHL news, the NHL p.r. office finished seventh in Deitsch's May media power rankings, thanks to its parade of positive news aimed at people such as Deitsch and me.
