NBC continues to roll up impressive ratings numbers

Michael Phelps' dramatics and NBC's tried and true formula of loading up on swimming, gymnastics and, yup, beach volleyball in Week 1 is delivering impressive early numbers.
Through three nights NBC's prime time telecasts were averaging a healthy 17 percent of U.S. homes, the best for a non-American Olympics through the first Sunday since Montreal in 1976 (18.1), back when ratings for pretty much everything were much higher than they are today.
