NHL will be looking for actual money in next TV deal

I blame Joe Torre and the Super Bowl, but I have been remiss in not mentioning this interesting story sooner.
It's from The Hockey News, which reports that the NHL, feeling better about itself as a media property in the wake of Winter Classic II, will be looking for a rights fee in its next TV deal, which is not the way its contract with NBC works.
Will be interesting to see where this leads before the 2009-10 season . . .
Did I ever mention how I was offered a job as assistant editor of The Hockey News in 1982, then had it yanked because I am a Yank? Something about a legal requirement to give the job to a qualified Canadian. I guess I have mentioned that before.
Still haven't gotten over it, though, obviously.
