Olympics off to good TV start

NBC said the first night of competition from Vancouver Saturday averaged 26.2 million viewers - more than for any night of the 2006 Games in Turin, when the U.S. population was smaller and the time zone was not as favorable - and Americans had money to do stuff like go out to dinner or to movies or on vacation rather than watch moguls skiing on TV.

The highest local rating was in Milwaukee, with 22.2 percent of households, perhaps thanks to that area having the most passionate speed skating following in the U.S.

NBC has been sending emails twice daily recounting highlights and quotes from its coverage. Starting today I will endeavor to share highlights of the highlights on the blog.

What the heck else do I have to do with myself been now and the Yankees-Red Sox game April 4?
