Phil Simms doesn't care if people claim he is biased
On this past week's "Inside the NFL," Phil Simms picked the Giants to win and Bill Cowher picked the Steelers. Duh!
Given that, and given the recent tiff between Boomer Esiason and Troy Aikman in which Boomer accused Troy of leaning the Cowboys' way, I asked Simms what he says to those who accuse him of being pro-Giants.
"I don't care if they think it. I dont know what to say. Im not going to try to change their minds. You can think what you want. People are going to vote; they dont care what the issues are or what the candidate says. Theyre going to vote for the candidate no matter what. Thats the way it is.
"If I really, really believed [the Steelers] are a better team to win, Id say it. Clearly, the Giants have the better team."
Does living in the New York area amid New York fans and media give him added insights into the Giants?
"I know more about the Steelers than I do the New York Giants; I watch the Steelers in a whole different way," he said, referring to the fact CBS has the AFC package and thus covers far more Steelers games. "I talk to Mike Tomlin and those people more than I do Tom Coughlin."
(This stuff never ends, by the way. At halftime of Giants-Steelers, Fox's Michael Strahan cracked, "I don't want to say anything, because I'm seen as biased.")
