Rays-Yankees is a hot ticket
Asking prices for Friday's Rays-Yankees game - the Yankees' first since the death of owner George Steinbrenner Tuesday - have skyrocketed, according to the ticket search engine FanSnap.com.
Through Wednesday, prices had more than doubled during the week, rising from $78 Monday to $86 Tuesday, then to $160 Wednesday.
At the same time ticket availability has plummeted by 60 percent for Friday's game.
Average prices for Saturday's Old-Timers' Game also have risen, and asking prices for all remaining Yankees home games are up by an average of almost 10 percent since Steinbrenner's death.
A FanSnap spokesman said prices for Friday's game began to rise after the death of longtime public address announcer Bob Sheppard Sunday, then rose more quickly in the wake of the Steinbrenner news.
