Red Bull Arena focuses on game
An interesting element of Red Bull Arena - which opens Saturday - that I didn't have room to include in my story about the stadium last week:
The team intentionally kept bells and whistles outside the seating area to a minimum, the better to encourage fans to actually watch the game in front of them.
One byproduct of many modern stadiums with wide concourses and endless dining and shopping opportunities is that many seats remain unfilled during the action even when tickets for those seats are sold.
The phenomenon has been particularly noticeable at the nearby Prudential Center, where the Devils play and the game can be viewed from various dining/club areas.
At Red Bull Arena, the main lounge intentionally does not have a good view of the playing field, lest fans watch from the bar rather than from their seats.
