Red Bulls boot media

When I took a tour of Red Bull Arena before it opened a couple of years back, I was surprised to learn the best seats in the house – just above field level at midfield – were reserved for the news media.

I believe there are witnesses who would attest to me saying at the time, “This won’t last.”

It didn’t. Along with more than doubling the cost of suites, the team is turning over its former media seating area to paying customers, which certainly is its prerogative.

This actually is a good thing, as it signals the rise of interest in soccer in these parts. “There was an increase in demand, and we were significantly mispriced,’’ VP for marketing Matt O’Neil told Sports Business Journal.
