  • Red Sox' TV ratings tumble

Here is a shocker for TV ratings geeks:

For the first time since 2003, the Red Sox do not rank first in average ratings for their games (as of the All-Star break) and have tumbled all the way to fifth place, behind the Cardinals, Twins, Phillies and Reds.

Here is the SportsBusiness Journal story on this.

It appears Red Sox Nation has gotten a tad bored.

The Bosox are averaging 6.25 percent of homes in the Boston area on NESN, down 36 percent from last year.

The Yankees' average rating of 4.38 on YES at the break ranked 12th in MLB and the Mets' 3.25 on SNY ranked 16th.

Thanks largely to Stephen Strasburg, the Nationals escaped last place in the ratings and are up to third-from-last with an average of 1.34 percent of homes on MASN - a 139.3 percent rise from last year.
