RIP, Frank Chirkinian
Frank Chirkinian, the TV golf visionary and pioneer, died last week.
Here are the basics.
Such was Chirkinian's status that CBS' Jim Nantz paid tribute to him on both CBS and NBC Sunday.
Said Nantz:
"He was the quintessential leader and everyone who had the honor of working for Frank loved him, respected him. He was a father figure to so many of us. It could be said that golf was good to Frank Chirkinian, but Frank Chirkinian was great to the game of golf.
"In moments like this we're supposed to be kind of detached and unemotional about the subject we’re covering. It’s a very difficult thing to do so I’m going to get out right now and just say, to Frankie, Jr. and all of Frank’s family, from his CBS family, we’re going to miss him a whole lot."
