Ruth, Namath, Brown, Robinson lead NY ito ESPN final
I have been poking fun at ESPN SportsCenter's February doldrums feature, "Mt. Rushmore of Sports," but for those who care, I can't resist keeping you informed of breaking developments.
Sometime after 9 a.m. Monday, Rick Reilly will reveal the news you've all been waiting for: That New York is the first of five finalists with the chance to have its "Mt. Rushmore" tabbed the big winner, bringing glory and honor to our fair state.
The foursome: Babe Ruth, Joe Namath, Jackie Robinson and Jim Brown. Ruth, Namath and Robinson did important things in their sports while representing New York teams.
Brown is from Manhasset, where he began to establish himself as one of the best lacrosse players of all time.
New York earned 20.2 percent of the vote, representing about 203,000 voters on ESPN.com. What are the other four finalists? I don't know. They will be revealed later in the week.
