  • Stephen A. Smith back on ESPN

Hollis' own Stephen A. Smith is back on ESPN! Sure, it's in a limited role, mostly on radio and the Internet, but Smith views it merely as a temporary phase.

"It's a resurrection, and I'm coming back with serious business on my mind," he says here with classic Stephen A. bombast.

I did not include this in the newspaper story, but SAS had some interesting things to say about the role black viewers - or lack thereof - played in the low ratings for his ESPN2 talk show, "Quite Frankly," which ran from 2005 to early '07.

Smith said given his polarizing personality and given the lack of African-Americans in such roles on television, it was important for minority viewers to support the show in large numbers.

That did not happen; ratings generally were weak across the board.
