  • Steve Phillips is out at ESPN

ESPN has parted ways with baseball analyst Steve Phillips, less than a week after his affair with a 22-year-old production assistant came to light.

The network's statement: "Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN. His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways."

Phillips' representative, Steve Lefkowitz, issued a statement saying Phillips "is voluntarily admitting himself to an inpatient treatment facility to address his personal issues."

The statement did not specify the nature of the personal issue, but Phillips was believed to be planning to check himself in several days before ESPN made its announcement.
