I have seen all 80 Best Picture winners, and can identify them by year if you ask nicely.

This information is of no practical use, of course. But it does at least qualify me to have an opinion on this stuff. So here it is: I liked "Michael Clayton" better than "No Country for Old Men."

Both are violent. Way too many Oscar-worthy movies are violent.

Here is an essay from the L.A. Times on that subject. The time difference enables West Coast writers to opine intelligently about the Oscars broadcast.

The East Coast guys and gals are just trying to get in the basic news before deadline.
