I included an item in my Friday newspaper column about strong NHL ratings through three games of the Cup Finals, which I expect to lead to complaints from NBA fans (and TV types) wondering where the love is for them.
Patience, people. When the league gets the Lakers-Celtics final it has been dreaming of to match the Red Wings-Penguins dream matchup the NHL is enjoying, there will be plenty of time for such things.
Just to whet the appetite: Game 5 of the Eastern Conference finals on ESPN Wednesday night was watched by an estimated 5.1 percent of homes that have ESPN, up 59 percent from ESPN's presentation of the Western finals last year.
Wednesday's game was the second most-viewed NBA telecast ever on ESPN, topped only by Game 5 of the '06 Eastern finals between the Pistons and Heat.
