  • YES provides minimal Yankees coverage in spring

After I got through with A-Rod in my Tuesday newspaper column, I took YES to task for its peculiar approach to covering spring training for a network dedicated to everything Yankees.

Basically, it doesn't, other than mega-events such as today's A-Rod presser and spring training games themselves.

The network has its reasons, which I listed. But mostly it comes down to money.

Once the season starts, YES covers the team well on its famously thorough pre- and post-game shows, and it offers a "Hot Stove" show in the offeason, but for much of February and March . . . nada.

Fortunately, Newsday is on the scene!
