Citi takes your money, gives it to Mets, annoys Rieber

The Citi Field naming rights deal has become a political football, er, baseball again, this time starring prominent new Yankee Stadium critic Dennis Kucinich.

Here is a news story. Here is Rieber's take.

I know a way to solve all of this: Yo, corporate America, stop paying for naming rights, any time, anywhere! It's ridiculous! We are not going to buy any more of your plane tickets or beer or credit default swaps because you have your name slapped on the side of a building.

There is just as much downside as upside to these deals.

Rich Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y., was one of the first to be named for a company that paid for the privilege. A decade ago, the Bills reverted the name to Ralph Wilson Stadium after their owner, and have not once had to change it because of a takeover or bankruptcy, or to answer to Dennis Kucinich.
