Cowboys are a ratings hit

The Sunday night viewership battle between the Yankees and Giants got a lot of attention, but the other big TV story from that day offered more evidence of the unparalleled power of two ratings forces:

The NFL (especially the Cowboys) and the late Sunday afternoon window.

Fox's 4:15 games, led by Falcons-Cowboys, attracted an average of 16.8 percent of homes and 28.4 million viewers, the network's most-watched Sunday game since 1996 and the highest-rated and most-watched Sunday game on any network since a Patriots-Steelers game on CBS in 2007.

Perspective: The Yankees and Giants games Sunday night averaged around 30 million viewers - combined.
