Derek Jeter named best New York shortstop ever

To the surprise of no one, Derek Jeter was added to the roster Tuesday night as New York's best all-time shortstop on MSG's "The Lineup."

Jeter beat out Phil Rizzuto, Pee Wee Reese, Jose Reyes (?!) and Travis Jackson, a Giant in the 1920s and '30s.

Yankees have taken four of the five positions so far, the only exception being Jackie Robinson at second base.

Now comes the hard one: Next Tuesday's show will focus on leftfield.

Judge Steve Hirdt told me the panel would not move centerfielders or rightfielders over. Only those who primarily played left are eligible.

This is a tough one, and by far the weakest position in New York baseball history.

I don't think Rickey Henderson was here long enough. Monte Irvin, maybe? Dave Winfield? Bob Meusel? Charlie Keller? Cleon Jones? Roy White?

My pick: Zack Wheat
