To the surprise of no one, the Giants-Cowboys game on NBC crushed the Emmys on CBS Sunday night by averaging 16.5 percent of homes in major markets compared to 10.0 for the Emmys.

NBC's "overnight" rating was the best in the four-year history of "Sunday Night Football" and the best for any regular-season NFL game in prime time since a Broncos-Dolphins game in 1998.

Dallas had the highest average viewership of any market with 41.7 percent of homes tuning in, more than doubling New York's 19.3, which was tied for 13th among major markets.

(Pats-Jets did a 13.8 rating in New York, which is good for 1 in the afternoon on a lovely late summer day. The game recorded a 33 share, which measures the percentage of sets actually in use that watched the game. That's a lot.)
