'Guiding Light' out after 72 years

The cast of "Guiding Light" posed with thousands

The cast of "Guiding Light" posed with thousands of scripts for their 15,000 episode press photo. After 72 years on the air, the soap, the longest running television drama broadcast weekdays on CBS, will air its final episode on Sept. 18. (Credit: PGP Productions)

Speaking of Joe Paterno (see two posts below), Grantland Rice and an America before computers messed everything up, this morning the final episode of "Guiding Light" airs on CBS after a run that began when JoePa was 10 years old and Rice still was overwriting about the heroic drama of college football.

Out of respect, I call upon all of America to take a break from emailing, blogging, Twittering and Facebooking to watch the farewell show.

Well, I'm going to anyway. I missed the first 20,000 or so, but better late than never.

(This isn't the show with Luke and Laura, is it?)
