HBO won't reveal strategy

As paranoid as NFL coaches are, even they realize there is only so much opponents can glean from what they do in training camp.

Hence it is relatively rare that teams ask HBO to censor strategic information during its “Hard Knocks’’ series.

But the upcoming, behind-the-scenes “24/7’’ series in advance of the NHL “Winter Classic’’ will be a first for the network – chronicling a pro team during the regular season.

“It’s the same basic situation in that any strategic pieces or meetings that take place that the teams do not want us in for competitive reasons, we'll abide by their wishes and not shoot,’’ HBO Sports president Ross Greenburg said.

Said commissioner Gary Bettman: “Quite frankly, if everyone wasn't comfortable with HBO, their judgment, their reputation, their expertise, their professionalism, they wouldn't and we wouldn't be comfortable in trusting HBO with this project.’’

One of the biggest topics of conversation on the NHL conference call announcing the show was the likely use of naughty language on the show. Thank you, Rex Ryan!

“Well, if I’m going to say some bad words, it’s going to be Russian words,’’ the Capitals’ Alex Ovechkin told the Washington Post. “Probably you guys don’t understand it. I don’t know. We’ll see.’’
