Perhaps inspired by Hofstra's night in the national spotlight Tuesday, I finally got around to checking out Chris Vaccaro's "Hofstra Athletics," which came out last year.

I don't want to mislead alumni of Stony Brook or Cornell or Boise State or Scottsdale Community College. This book is strictly for Hofstra alums and fans.

But it provides a nice, pictorial stroll down memory lane, dating back to the 1930s, recalling Hofstra sports stars major and minor.

Speaking of major: Speedy Claxton wrote the foreword!
