Michael Kay to cut back on radio hours on game days

Michael Kay told me before the BBWAA dinner Sunday night (see posts below) that on Yankees game days he will not work his full 2 to 7 p.m. shift on 1050 ESPN.

As in the past, Kay will depart at 6 o'clock to prepare for the Yankees game on YES, leaving the show to co-host Don LaGreca. But he also will pass on the recently added 2 to 3 p.m. hour - barring an important news development - which LaGreca will handle without him.

Kay said when the Yankees are on the West Coast, he will do his full five-hour radio show, then take a break and work the game for YES.

The plan makes sense. Doing live radio for four or five hours, then live TV for three or four, is more draining physically and mentally than you might think, and it's a long, long baseball season.
