MSG show tabs Dave Winfield best leftfielder in New York history

Dave Winfield took leftfield in MSG's "The Lineup" Tuesday, giving the Yankees every spot so far other than second base, where Jackie Robinson was the pick.

I'm guessing that trend won't change on next week's episode, when the panel picks a rightfielder.

I have nothing against Winfield. We even share a birthday (nine years apart). But I was rooting for Zack Wheat, a Dodger in the 1910s and '20s.

Assuming Joe DiMaggio and/or Mickey Mantle holds off Willie Mays in centerfield, the only remaining chance for non-Yankees is at starting pitcher, where Christy Mathewson and Tom Seaver presumably will face off against Whitey Ford.

No disrespect to the other two guys, but the choice has to be Mathewson.
