New York ranked among top markets for U.S. vs. Algeria

New York ranked ninth among 56 major markets in the ratings for Wednesday's U.S. vs. Algeria soccer game, averaging 5.3 percent of homes - more than that night's Mets or Yankees games managed.

It was the second-highest-rated World Cup game in ESPN history in the New York market, behind only the 6.2 for the U.S. vs. Germany quarterfinal in 2002.

And, of course, the 5.3 figure does not fully account for the many people who watched the game outside their homes, in bars and offices across the area.
