NHL commish frustrated w/LI pols

Mike Francesa made a smart move taking this week off and handing the WFAN afternoon drive time reins to Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts.

Many listeners figure to take a break, too, if the grim parade of disgruntled Mets callers continues to dominate the station. (It has infiltrated 1050 ESPN, too.)

Is this going to continue for the seven long weeks 'til Opening Day?

Please, no.

There was some hockey talk on the FAN this morning, when NHL commish Gary Bettman (Cornell Class of '72) spoke to Ca-Boom and lamented the pols who "can't get their act together" when it comes to keeping the Isles on LI.

"Nassau County now and the Town of Hempstead seem to be not recognizing the fact that this lease that they have is going to expire," Bettman said.

"The longer they wait the harder it's going to be to get it done and the more expensive it's gotten. Had they done this five years ago the building probably would have cost half of what it's going to cost now."

Baumbach continues to be all over this story.

Me? I'm going to write a Tuesday newspaper column now.

Enjoy the fact there are no NBA, NHL, MLB or NFL games scheduled for tonight.

Instead, talk to your spouse. Or watch the pairs figure skating from Vancouver on NBC. Or the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on USA.
