Watchdog

Neil Best leaves no stone unturned in the world of sports media.

Pharewell, Spectrum

Like many thousands of other fans, I would have been happy to push the button when Veterans Stadium came down a few years back.

Not so another Philadelphia sports institution, the Spectrum, whose demolition begins today. Among those scheduled to be on hand will be Roosevelt's own Julius Erving and Bobby Clarke, who is not from Roosevelt.

I always remember the place as the home of the loathed Flyers of the mid-1970s. Mrs. WatchDog will remember it as the place she regularly watched (and rooted for) the Broad Street Thugs with her late, loud father during their glory days.

Pharewell, old phriend.

The demolition begins at noon and will take about four months.

The other big sports news this day also revolves around cleaning up wreckage: Terry Collins, live on SNY at 11 a.m.
