Sports bloggers plan to unite in New York City June 13

Bloggers aren't known for their ability or willingness to organize and gather all of that old-schoolish, old-mediaish sort of stuff, but a major effort is afoot to bring together some of the biggest names in sports blogging/new media in New York June 13.

It's called "Blogs with Balls," it is open to the public and there is much information about it here.

Why am I not on the list of participants? Because I'm waiting to see whether I need to spend that day waiting for Tiger show up in Bethpage for a practice round or to wave to fans or something.

Our editors already are starting to get their game faces on for the Open. If Tiger wins in Augusta . . . it's only going to get nuttier!

At the Open at Shinnecock, I was assigned to stick like wet fescue to Tiger, even after he was far out of contention.

More below on the blogging conference.“This event will explore the ways in which sports bloggers and writers can utilize new media to forge stronger relationships with teams, athletes and consumer brands,” Don Povia, the event co-creator and owner of HuggingHaroldReynolds.com, said in a news release.

“All of the stakeholders recognize the potential for meaningful collaboration, but we need to better understand how to do so while still providing value to our respective audiences.”

Added Kyle Bunch, BwB co-creator and RxSN co-founder: "With all that's happening in media today -- between the slow death of the newspaper, the emergence of Twitter, continued evolution and expansion of Facebook, and rapidly-expanding mobile web/app adoption fueled by the iPhone -- this is an exciting time to bring together thought leaders from the sports media world to talk about where we're headed."
