With the anniversary of the Worst Thanksgiving Ever approaching, Tiger Woods has been on a media tour of sorts to reestablish his “connection to fans,’’ as he put it on ESPN Radio Thursday morning.
It has included the radio interview, during which he said he is “infinitely’’ happier than a year ago, and a first-person Newsweek essay in which he described the joys of bathing and cooking for his children.
Woods remained characteristically on point in the article and the interview, describing his personal journey after a series of extramarital affairs cost him several endorsements and his marriage.
"[I'm] just more clear, more clear about my perspective, who I am, where I want to go," he said. "It's amazing how much better I feel internally each and every day."
What about golf, after a year in which he has failed to win a single tournament?
"I still have the same drive to get better, no doubt,’’ he said. “But I can't get better as a player if I don't get better as a person."
The most intriguing piece of Woods’ fan initiative was his return to Twitter after a 17-month absence. He posted only three times on his first day, but still doubled his followers to more than 200,000.
Before going on the radio, he wrote this tweet: “The best part about phone interviews is getting to wear shorts.’’
