Troy Aikman talks Eli, Tony

The Hofstra football team bounced Troy Aikman's thoughts on Sunday's big game out of the Friday newspaper, but let's at least see what Fox's analyst had to say to me about the two quarterbacks in today's big game on Fox.

Eli Manning?

"I think he’s a good quarterback that plays really great at times and at other times doesn’t play so well. His highs and lows, they’re not as dramatic as what they once were, but there's still a pretty good swing in those performances.

"But look, this guy has won at the highest level. Can you win a world championship with this guy? Those are no longer valid questions. He’s a tough son of a gun and he's dealt with a lot.

"No one knows how much pain he is in right now and how much he’s played through in previous years. It seems to me when the games are important and he’s needed to play well, more times than not when I’ve watched him he’s stepped up and made plays."

Tony Romo?

"The only thing I've seen from Tony is he has not turned the ball over like he did a year ago. He's basically cut his turnovers in half, and his sack totals are up a little bit more by trying to be more judicious about how he’s throwing the football."

Aikman added both Romo and coach Wade Phillips have had to deal with endless questions about previous troubles in December; Romo is 5-8 in the 12th month.

"Wade Phillips knows if they have a poor December he’s not going to be the head coach next year. And Tony, in order to break out of this perception around him, he has to play well these next four or five games, then play well in January."
