Vancouver opens well on TV

Here is the first of what figure to be an annoying number of ratings-related posts about the Olympics over the next two weeks:

Friday night's Opening Ceremony on NBC averaged 32.6 million viewers, 47 percent more than in Turin four years ago and the most for a non-U.S. Winter Olympics since the 33.8 million for Lillehammer in 1994.

(An average of 13.3 million Canadians watched, surpassing the previous high for a show in that nation - the 10.3 million who saw the gold medal hockey game in the 2002 Olympics between Canada and the U.S.)

An average of 17.3 percent of U.S. homes watched.
