YES, SNY fire up hot stove

As everyone knows - especially old football writers who try and fail to sneak stories about Troy Aikman into the newspaper on the same day the Yankees break bread with Cliff Lee - baseball season never really ends in New York.

Well, that's not entirely true.

It usually takes a little break from approximately Dec. 24 until after the BCS Championship Game.

With that in mind, YES and SNY both are offering the season premieres of their "Hot Stove" shows Thursday night.

YES is up first at 6:30, followed by SNY at 7. (YES will interview Brian Cashman via satellite. From Cliff Lee's den, perhaps?)

(YES will offer its Hot Stove show twice weekly beginning next week.)

At 7:30, it's a new season of "Beer Money" on SNY, in which the hosts will quiz members of SNY's own announcing staff, who will donate any winnings to charity.

Amber Wilson and Dan Schachner are the new co-hosts.

Speaking of baseball, two Giants scribes emailed me Wednesday about a quote from Rich Seubert in which he tried to downplay the challenge of offensive linemen moving from one position on the line to another because of injuries:

"If you guys had to go cover baseball, you'd just do it," he said. "It's just reporting."

Seubert had no way of knowing this little secret of those who cover football on a regular basis:

Most of us would rather work as the offensive linemen's tackling dummies than become baseball writers.
